What do Different Grain Weights

Actually Look Like?

Compared are three common 9MM grain weights.

When the grain weight changes, the projectile size changes. This can result in different range experiences and bullet behaviors.

What is the difference between

.223 and 300 blackout?

.223 and 300 Blackout seem very similar but actually have

quite a few differences.

300 Blackout bullets have a much larger projectile and usually

less powder than a .223 bullet.

Both .223 and 300 Blackout have the same brass case, but the 300 Blackout case has been cut down and resized.

What is grain weight?

A grain (gr) is a unit of weight. It can be used to measure

gunpowder and projectile weight.

When you see the grain weight on the side of an ammo box, it is always referring to the weight of the projectile, not the powder.

is 380 a weaker 9mm?

380 and 9MM are very similar, but there are differences.

9MM bullets typically have more energy and a heavier projectile.

380 bullets typically have a shorter case and less felt recoil.

However, both bullets have the same projectile width.

WHAT IS THE PROJECTILE OF A BULLET?

The projectile of a bullet is the piece of the bullet that shoots out of the gun barrel. It is placed in a brass case with a primer and gunpowder to create a bullet.

Plated vs fmj

Plated ammo are projectiles with thin copper—or other metal alloy—jackets bonded to the lead-core projectile, encasing the entire projectile. FMJ stands for Full Metal Jacket. FMJ bullets also have lead cores, but they are encased—with the exception of the base of the projectile—in thicker copper or other metal alloy cases.

Remanufactured vs reloaded

Reman ammo often has a bad image, but it's actually quite safe and should not be confused with reloaded ammo.

Reloaded ammo is often personally done by someone taking used cases and reloading them with a primer, projectile, and powder. Remanufactured ammo is done by a company, taking used brass to be washed and reshaped before being loaded by professional equipment.

One is safe to buy, the other is not. One is loaded by professional equipment, one is loaded by hand. One is sold to ranges, the other is for personal use.
